LED-Lit 3D Printed Works by Ken Bessemer
Each piece in this collection represents a new form of artistic expression—one that could not exist without the convergence of 3D printing, programmable LED lighting, and digital design. These works are not just lit sculptures or clever fabrications; they are intentional, finely crafted expressions made possible only through modern technology.
What sets these creations apart is how light is shaped and filtered by the printed forms. The textures, patterns, and internal structures—layer lines, infill geometry, surface details—are not accidents. They are carefully designed in a CAD environment to interact with light in precise, often surprising ways. These effects are not replicable by traditional methods. The light becomes the medium, and the 3D-printed structure becomes its frame, lens, and canvas all at once.
By controlling every aspect—from the internal lattice to the surface finish to the choreography of the LEDs—I create not just objects, but experiences. This is not manufacturing; it is sculpture in the language of light and code.
Because these effects can only be achieved through this specific combination of tools and intent, the work stands on its own as a legitimate new art form. Like bronze casting or oil painting once did, this medium offers a fresh platform for emotion, beauty, and meaning—one that reflects our current era of digital craftsmanship and intelligent design.
