🇺🇸 THIS IS WHERE IT STARTED

The Chevy Bowtie 6×9 Car Speaker Grill Pair has a little more history behind it than most of our designs.

Because this wasn't originally created simply because we thought a Bowtie would look cool on a speaker.

We needed it.

We manufacture rear speaker boxes for classic Chevy Corvettes, and we wanted a 6×9 speaker grill that looked like it actually belonged on those boxes.

Something clean.

Something unmistakably Chevy.

Something that could turn the speaker itself into part of the finished Corvette installation.

So we built the Bowtie.

And that first version became one of the designs that helped start everything we're doing today at CarSpeakerGrills.com.

🏁 BUILT FOR OUR CORVETTE REAR SPEAKER BOXES

THE GRILL AND THE BOX WERE MEANT TO GO TOGETHER.

The 6×9 version was originally developed to complement the rear speaker boxes we build for classic Corvettes.

Instead of installing a beautiful custom speaker box and finishing it with an ordinary generic black grill, we wanted the cover to carry the Chevy theme right through the installation.

The speaker box shouldn't look aftermarket.

The grill shouldn't look like an afterthought.

Put the two together and the entire installation begins to look intentional.

That's the difference between:

"Yeah, somebody added speakers back there."

and...

"They thought of everything."

This 6×9 Bowtie is where those two sides of our business came together:

🎀 THE SPEAKER BOX CREATED THE NEED FOR THE GRILL.

🔊 THEN WE REALIZED THE ORIGINAL HAD A PROBLEM

The original Bowtie looked good.

But as we continued developing speaker grills—and started listening carefully to what serious car-audio enthusiasts were telling us—we realized something.

It wasn't open enough.

There was simply too much material between the speaker and the listener.

We could have ignored that.

After all, it looked good.

But that's not where this project was heading anymore.

So we redesigned it.

We opened the surrounding structure.

We redesigned the center.

We opened the Bowtie itself.

And Version Two became a very different speaker grill.

🎓 THE BOWTIE GRADUATED.

It started with our Flatline philosophy.

Then it grew up and became Demo Audiophile.

🎀 VERSION TWO

SAME BOWTIE. A LOT MORE SPEAKER.

Look through the new 6×9 design and you'll immediately see the difference.

A large, bold hexagonal structure covers the speaker while leaving extensive open area for sound to pass through.

But we didn't stop when we reached the emblem.

The Bowtie itself is open.

Instead of putting a large solid Chevy-inspired emblem directly across the center of the speaker, bold angled acoustic passages follow the shape of the Bowtie.

That lets the emblem remain visually strong without turning the middle of your speaker into a wall.

The Bowtie is still the star.

🔊 It just learned to get out of the music's way.

🎶 THE DEMO AUDIOPHILE SERIES

SOUND FIRST. ART RIGHT THERE WITH IT.

The Bowtie earned its place in our Demo Audiophile Series.

This series exists for the person who sees a beautiful speaker grill and immediately asks:

"Okay—but how much sound is getting through?"

That's a fair question.

In fact, it's exactly the question that caused us to redesign the original.

Version Two incorporates extensive open areas throughout the surrounding grill and directly through the central artwork.

The large hexagonal openings provide airflow across the 6×9 cone.

The open Bowtie reduces unnecessary obstruction through the center.

And the entire design is built around balancing protection, strength, appearance and acoustic openness.

You spent money on your speakers because you wanted to hear them.

We're not going to forget that because we also want them to look good.

🔊 DON'T COVER THE MIDDLE JUST TO MAKE IT PRETTY

The center of the speaker matters.

That's particularly important with many coaxial 6×9 speakers, where tweeters and other components may occupy the center of the driver.

A giant solid decorative emblem sitting directly in front of that area doesn't make much sense for a sound-first design.

So ours isn't solid.

The angled openings through the Bowtie become part of the emblem's visual language while simultaneously providing acoustic passages through the centerpiece.

That's the idea behind Demo Audiophile.

The engineering doesn't interrupt the artwork.

THE ENGINEERING BECOMES THE ARTWORK.

🚘 BORN IN THE BACK OF A CORVETTE

There's something particularly satisfying about seeing this grill on the product it was originally created for.

Our Corvette rear speaker boxes gave us the reason to design the 6×9 Bowtie in the first place.

The box fits the car.

The speaker fits the box.

The Bowtie finishes the speaker.

One complete visual idea.

But you certainly don't need one of our Corvette boxes to use this grill.

The 6×9 has been a staple of automotive audio for generations.

Classic Chevys.

Muscle cars.

Trucks.

Restomods.

Rear decks.

Custom enclosures.

Door installations.

Custom interior panels.

🎨 YOUR CHEVY DOESN'T HAVE TO BE BLACK

SO WHY SHOULD YOUR SPEAKER GRILL BE?

Once people started seeing the Bowtie, something happened that we hadn't originally planned.

They started asking for colors.

"My interior is red. Can you make it red?"

"My car is green. Can you match it?"

"Can you do two colors?"

Yes.

We'll display the color combinations we've already produced so you can see what's available and get ideas for your own build.

But don't assume those examples are the limit.

🖤 CLEAN BLACK

The black version is where this design began, and there's still something right about it.

On a Corvette speaker box, black gives the grill a restrained, integrated appearance.

The Bowtie is there.

The detail is there.

But it doesn't overpower the interior.

Clean. Simple. Almost OEM.

That's exactly what some builds need.

🩶 SILVER BUFF FINISH

WHEN YOU WANT THE SCULPTURE TO SHOW.

Our hand-applied silver buff treatment takes the same Bowtie design and gives it an entirely different personality.

The metallic buff catches the raised surfaces while allowing darker areas to remain underneath.

That means the edges of the Bowtie, surrounding structure and sculpted details begin picking up silvery highlights.

It's similar to the rubbing/buffing techniques used to bring out detail on decorative furniture and sculptural pieces.

High areas catch the silver.

Recessed areas stay dark.

The result is a dimensional, aged-metal appearance that changes depending on the light and viewing angle.

And because the treatment is applied by hand, each pair develops subtle individual variation.

❤️🖤 TWO COLORS?

ABSOLUTELY.

This design really comes alive when the Bowtie and surrounding grill are treated as separate visual elements.

A contrasting center.

A different background.

A color chosen to coordinate with upholstery, paint, stitching or other interior details.

Red and black can create an aggressive classic Chevy look.

Other combinations can completely change the personality.

We'll show you what we've already printed.

You can ask us what else we can create.

💡 AND THEN WE TURNED THE LIGHTS ON

This is where the Bowtie gets really interesting.

The design can also be produced in configurations intended for LED backlighting, including clear/translucent elements that allow illumination to become part of the grill itself.

Because Version Two contains so much open geometry, the lighting has plenty of opportunity to come through.

And because the Bowtie itself is opened...

THE LIGHT COMES THROUGH THE EMBLEM TOO. 🎀💡

At night, it becomes a completely different speaker grill.

💚 RGB OR 🌈 COLOR CHASE?

Both are available depending on how you want to build your installation.

For the Bowtie, we're especially fond of the cleaner look created by an RGB system displaying one solid color at a time.

Green.

Red.

Blue.

Purple.

Whatever fits the vehicle.

A single illuminated color can make the entire Bowtie appear to glow while still keeping the classic shape clean and recognizable.

Want something wilder?

A multicolor/chasing LED configuration can display multiple colors around the ring simultaneously for a much more animated show effect.

💚 One strong color for a clean custom look.

🌈 Multiple colors when subtle isn't in the plan.

Either way, the open structure of Version Two gives the lighting somewhere to go.

🚪 FLAT MOUNT OR NEED MORE CLEARANCE?

WE'VE GOT YOU COVERED NO MATTER THE SPEAKER DEPTH.

The product photographs may show our Bowtie grills in a low-profile configuration.

That's intentional.

When the speaker is rear-mounted or recessed sufficiently beneath the surface, a low-profile grill creates the clean integrated appearance we originally wanted for our Corvette installations.

But we know every installation isn't built that way.

A front-mounted speaker may project farther outward.

A taller surround may require more room.

A high-excursion speaker may need additional clearance as the cone moves.

So don't look at a photograph of a flat grill and assume it won't work with your speaker.

WE HAVE OPTIONS.

A compatible spacer or offset ring can create additional clearance.

An LED offset ring can provide that clearance while simultaneously adding backlighting.

And if you'd prefer an integrated solution...

WE CAN CUSTOM PRINT THE OFFSET DIRECTLY INTO THE GRILL BODY.

The surrounding body can be produced with additional depth to suit installations where a low-profile grill simply isn't appropriate.

Flat when flat works.

Offset when your speaker needs room.

We've got you covered no matter the speaker depth.

Always verify the protrusion and excursion requirements of your particular speaker when determining necessary grill clearance.

The Bowtie started as a practical solution for our Corvette rear speaker boxes.
